Environment

The well-being of the environment and nature is important to us. Our goal is to minimize the environmental impact of our operations and preserve the vitality and diversity of nature.

We are committed to fulfilling the obligations of environmental legislation and environmental permit decisions, complying with the guiding principles of the Finnish TSM standard, and continually improve  the environmental performance in all phases of mining operations. Environmental impacts are monitored in accordance with the monitoring program approved by the authorities and through voluntary monitoring.

Closure and rehabilitation are carried out in such a way that the mining area becomes safe for people and the environment.

Environmental policy

Throughout the mining lifecycle we commit to:

  • meet the requirements of environmental legislation regarding our operations
  • operate in accordance with the ISO 14001 standard, Towards Sustainable Mining standard (TSM-Finland), our responsibilities, obligations and international good practices
  • identify environmental aspects and assess and manage risks to minimize negative impacts
  • reduce environmental impacts by setting sufficient resources and challenging goals
  • use natural resources responsibly, operate energy-efficiently and to take climate change effects into account
  • increase employees’ environmental awareness and encourage environmentally friendly actions
  • consider and promote biodiversity and respect the cultural heritage of our local environment
  • going forward to increase the recycling and beneficial use of waste and responsible waste management
  • open communication with stakeholders in order to promote the realization of the goals and objectives of environmental protection
  • report openly, investigate, find root causes and implement corrective measures in all deviations affecting the environment
